But Stamey has a way of making things work whether it’s punk rock or country or even experimental classical. Stamey meanwhile tends to the detail work. “Guys that was great” he says after another take. “But could you hit the bridge one more time? You can hate me later… About his re-entry into the music business Holt will only say that he hired Stamey’s wife Dana as an assistant “and the next thing I knew we were both working for Chris. ”In the meantime Stamey is set to re-emerge as a recording artist in his own right with “Travels in the South” (Yep Roc Records) his first solo album in 13 years. It’s a marvelous record and practically a version of “This Is Your Life Chris Stamey. ” The album features cameos from old friends and fellow Tarheel legends Don Dixon and Peter Holsapple as well as more recent arrivals to his circle — Merritt Cockrell Ben Folds and Whiskeytown alumni Ryan Adams and Caitlin Cary. “Travels in the South” is also steeped in the obsessive studio-smart verities of Brian Wilson and Phil Spector.

And having spent four years with “Happy Feet” I find myself just reflexively thinking about it. So stories are banging around in my brain already on “Happy Feet” and if a good one emerges we’ll go for it. Loder: The movie has a great range of music from hip-hop to the Beach Boys. Were you heavily involved in picking it?Miller: h yeah. I mean everybody on the film was. What I found very interesting was that in the CGI world there are a lot of really good musicians and a whole bunch of them including the writers were intensely musical. I’m not unfortunately — I cannot sing and I cannot dance.

We need to start a therapy pot. I hate the majority of kids music but have become fond of Laurie Berkner (I bet she used to be a little punk rock) and Dan Zanes. I won two free tickets to see Dan Zanes and it was quite a show. Screaming fans lots of frenzied dancing and I think I even saw a couple six-year-olds getting high in the bathroom. It was actually the best show I’ve been to in the last two years. Which makes me feel kinda funny.
