Until they left school they went though a succession of drummers developing a healthy following and reputation in Melbourne’s active rockabilly scene. While that scene gave the renamed Living End a couple of gigs a week they quickly outgrew it both in popularity and attitude. Their next EP 1996′s It’s for Your wn Good provided the first alternative radio breakthrough with the song “From Here on In. ” During the six months the EP spent on the indie charts they changed drummers for Travis Dempsey still in rockabilly style standing up at his kit… Issued that July the band spent the summer stateside on much of the Warped Tour before heading back home by the end of August for headlining dates with End of Fashion and Red Riders. setNGrp(1);lsConf. setNKw(10);lsConf.

Punk Science aims to take the scariness out science and make it accessible to anyone with half a brain or failing that reality TV stars. Punk uses live science demonstrations and video clips to help the audience in their journey to enlightenment they also throw in the odd vote to keep the crowd involved in the debate. Lyrics are written in expression of every facet of life and not only about love. Gates’ main inspiration comes from his family and he began taking his vocal abilities more seriously during his freshman year in college. Gates said “We want to be the band you can listen to when you’re 17 and when you’re 70. ” Fans should be involved and down for a good time Gates said and buying the albums should only be the first part of The Invite experience. The general attitude of the band is similar to that of its influences such as the Goo Goo Dolls Dashboard Confessional and the Counting Crows. All in all local or mainstream shows with this much talent and brilliant live performances truly remind me why I love music… The general attitude of the band is similar to that of its influences such as the Goo Goo Dolls Dashboard Confessional and the Counting Crows. All in all local or mainstream shows with this much talent and brilliant live performances truly remind me why I love music. Music has an ability to leave me wired after a show with goosebumps from an amazing solo and I think it lets anyone connect with others on any level. The Invite is truly worth your time and the act gives hope to future local bands. They have a performance at URI on March 29 in the Memorial Union Ballroom as the featured band in a Surf Club benefit with other bands yet to be announced. Page 1 of 1Article ToolsShare:.
Space-case traveling with performance artists fficial Tourist
SF Weekly – Feb 21, 2007
By John Nova Lomax. 0014 –>write to the editor | email a friend | print article | write your commentSpace-case traveling with performance artists fficial TouristBy Jennifer MaerzPublished on February 20 2007 at 5:05pmIt’s that awful time of year when most of the anticipated acts have yet to go on tour and you spend more time downloading shit than exploring new music in the real world. Fortunately though you live in San Francisco and not San Dimas. In our bustling cultural metropolis idle time is an opportunity to get creative. That means going beyond the standard outlets and peeking into the spaces where visual and sonic arts collide… Take the stairs next to the pizza joint and you’re immediately transported from the Folsom corridor to an arty party atmosphere curated by lesbian couple Josette Melchor and Carrie Martin. n a recent Saturday night the pair circulated through crowds eyeballing carnival balls strung from the ceiling and a giant column of cassette tapes among other installations for a show titled “Fast Forward Rewind. ” While musical headliners the Mall offered the sort of wonderfully jilted-and-tilted synth-punk that gives crowds motion sickness it was fficial Tourist who nailed the time-traveling theme of the event. These semi-locals (based in “akland and Bosnia”) regularly scramble minds with a battalion of audio-visual tricks. At Gray Area fficial Tourist band members Jeremiah Nadya Jasko Kamau Amu Patton Matt Scullin DJ Maurey and Aziz Habibi set up (per their usual) cloistered in a back room. They projected themselves via video onto television screens around the gallery and used surveillance cameras to incorporate real-time images alongside unusual footage — resulting in a hyper-color public-access-television-from-the-VCR-age aesthetic. “The video backgrounds range from stuff I find during my travels” says Nadya in an e-mail following the event.

” The bros with the shellacked hair in front of me confer upon Neko’s every move and because the club is jam packed I am intimately aware of their conversation as well as the moist scent of their beer and burger breath. There is something almost endearing about them chugging Budweiser while searching for adjectives of “beauty” as if finding the right word could somehow connect them to the presence on stage. We stand elbow to pointy elbow rib to stranger’s rib a heavy-set sea of lawyers and punk rockers scenesters and surfers all in love for one night with the very same girl. And if the “not a good sign” hadn’t been a foreshadowing there wouldn’t be much more to say. Neko Case releases her song like a bird into the air and for 45 minutes no one in the club moves because we’re not even there anymore. Her voice like a stretched out thread of honey transports us into a world of heartbreak and haystacks.
