Rockers do their block
NEWS.com.au – Mar 15, 2007
article-tools –> Kathy Mccabe March 14 2007 11:00pm A NEW generation of British indie rock musicians are stealing back the zeitgeist from their hip-hop brethren. The indies are offering four-minute vignettes which capture life at street level for popular consumption. British rockers Bloc Party arrived seemingly from nowhere two years ago with their debut album Silent Alarm a mish-mash of danceable punk music which was championed by Franz Ferdinand and the BBC. Its themes were stereotypical of pop freshmen – sex and boredom with a dash of anti-conservative politics as befits their university education. But after a year of travelling the world which included their explosion from best kept indie secret to top 40 band in Australia courtesy of their Splendour In The Grass 2005 performance and sideshows Bloc Party decided to embrace a "concept" for the all-important album No. Frontman Kele kereke says he and bandmates Russell Lissack (guitar) Gordon Moakes (bass) and Matt Tong (drums) had been collecting ideas for A Weekend In The City for 18 months before they entered the studio last year with current hitmaker Jacknife Lee (Snow Patrol U2).

San Francisco Chronicle – Mar 15, 2007
Eddy Demon doesn’t think so. The lead singer and guitarist of Total Annihilation and his band mates intend to “annihilate everyone” with their music as they play a “Kids Rock” gig this weekend that features bands with kids and adults in their lineups… Gregory’s Episcopal Church in San Francisco a year ago. In the audience that night was Comte a veteran of the early ’90s rock ‘n’ roll wars as a member of the San Diego group Swivel Neck. Seeing the kids put their heart into their music inspired Comte and he asked if he could join the fledgling group. “Eddy was like ‘Wow it would be really cool’ ” Comte says. Since then Comte has become something of a mentor to Eddy and Pietro. “A lot of times children hear the message that nobody ever makes it in a band” says Comte who has a 4-year-old daughter. “That can be discouraging.

15–Against Me! has to be one of the most incendiary punk acts to be signed to a major label in a while. And it’s not just the band’s music that gets people fired up.
