‘Friends’ Forever page 1 – Music – Village Voice – Village…
Village Voice – Mar 20, 2007
(In America Justice are signed to Vice. ) There are other similarities between the two groups including forceful repetition of catchy playful phrases and thick throbbing beats. But Justice feels more rock ‘n’ roll than Daft Punk with squelchy distortion carrying many of their tracks perhaps explaining why their tunes appeal to rock ‘n’ dance fans so much. Still going strong nearly four years after their inception Justice spin this week at Hiro Ballroom as part of the Ed Banger showcase which will take over the GBH party Cheeky Bastard Thursday night. I first heard Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay perform at last year Winter Music Conference in Miami at the always-fun Revolver party which probably served as an introduction for many others as well. By the end of their raucous set—incorporating both “Be My Baby” and Prodigy’s “Smack My Bitch Up”—we were all sold. This permeability between rock and techno sometimes gets Justice defined as nu-rave the trendy revival of early-’90s techno with a nod to indie rock… Two days later Justice were signed just on the strength of The Song. In 2003 Winter released it as a single and sold 5000 units; a year later DJ Hell picked it up in Germany for his label Gigolo Records where according to Winter it went on to sell 20000 copies. (In dance-music terms this is like going quadruple platinum). Up till now called “Never Be Alone” the track was re-released by Virgin Records U. in 2006 with a new title—”We Are Your Friends” hit the Top 20 U.

htm>MPFrees: Download TunesAUSTIN Texas – With long lines changing lineups and more than 1400 acts to chose from at the just-concluded South by Southwest Music Festival here sometimes you just leave it to the gods of serendipity and roam the streets. You’re sure to find some great music. And it’s hard to forget the jalape?ancakes. In its 21st year SXSW featured some classics: It seemed like everyone in town was headed for the Stooges show. And the Stax Records 50th anniversary party – which featured Isaac Hayes and Booker T and the MGs – had a line wrapped around the block and rightly so. But buzzed-about "Rehab" girl Amy Winehouse canceled at least half of the six shows that she was scheduled to perform and there was at least one Winehouse sighting on the main music drag Sixth Street during the festival’s hottest day… daytime showcase – and were the musical highlight of the five-day showcase. The band’s already been deemed worthy of an iPod ad – you’d recognize the danceable "Flathead’ – and it deserves it. The threesome’s knowledge of rock ‘n’ roll shows up in its songs which are immersed in ’60s Brit pop as well as late-’70s punk. Live and on their debut "Costello Music" (whose art tips its pen to the Varga Girls) the group refreshes the old-school sound with super-sticky instantly catchy guitar melodies which have sweet and surprising change-ups midsong to keep them lively. Bo Diddley’s Unique Rhythm Continues to Inspire
NPR – Mar 20, 2007
The Latin-influenced beat inspired the music of punk rock and pop legends including Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away” and U2′s “Desire. ” At age 78 Diddley still dresses in his distinctive outfit performing old classics and new music for today’s youth. He almost never got started on his signature square guitar. Diddley started out playing violin but gave it up when he broke his finger. He then turned to an instrument with more prominent black role models.

“There’s no song that says ‘George Bush should do this policy or that policy’ but they [Blilie and Whitney] write about what’s important and personal for them” Henderson said. “After Crimes which was billed as a more political album for whatever reason they wanted the lyrics to be more plain – but it’s still not plain for the average person with all the similes and metaphors. Even with the sporadic tempo changes and melodic instrumentation that set a standard in punk synthesis of noise and experimentation the music is still daunting to your average listener but rewarding for those who can sift through the static and screams. “The music is layered; there are different angles you can take The Blood Brothers at” Henderson said. “Some people listen to the vocals the melody hook or all the music going on underneath. Most bands don’t make it up to nine years [The Blood Brothers emerged in ’97] but we made sure we made challenging music – a fast punk song was easy to write but adding melody adds another element to the songs. All are elements you can learn to appreciate.
