Dirty Projectors builds elaborate “glitch operas” with stark pluckings of strings and precise ecstatic harmonies all arranged slightly out of whack. Deerhunter from Atlanta weaves sweet guitar and vocal melodies into patterns that seem both florid and evil. “Me neither” he said. Six million people now use Shazam’s software to identify and sometimes purchase music they hear while walking down the street sitting in a café or doing just about anything else.
