Music Review | Velvet Revolver
New York Times – May 24, 2007
It’s music about cravings for sex drugs fame and getting even and about the impact of guitar riffs and power chords backed by mighty drumbeats; it mixes preening arrogance with sullen dissatisfaction. “All that first-class jet set gets me down” Mr. Weiland sang in “Big Machine. ” At this late date Velvet Revolver is probably the style’s most skillful working band. The members are old hands at Hollywood rock… And “The Last Fight” built from folk-rock to earnest power ballad: “They’re afraid when we spit out the fire and start living. ” But the set was mostly about strut and sneer; there were platforms on top of the stage monitors so band members could step up and flaunt their moves. Punk provided the veneer but metal’s respect for technique governed the sound. Weiland’s snarl deepened verse by verse; riffs built as they repeated until cymbals provided a crashing release. When Slash took solos drawing on Eric Clapton’s supple phrasing and Jimi Hendrix’s bite he held his guitar vertically and only moved his fingers. Velvet Revolver moved outside its self-chosen niche to choose encores: Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” (which Mr.

There was a time where everyone was different and everyone had a shot" Rankin said. "But now the music and lifestyle has been co-opted to the point that if you don’t fit into one mold or you’re not on MTV2 or the Warped Tour it doesn’t work. " Still does this have to be the end of Good Riddance? "There’s more to it.

1: No singing along at the top of your lungs01:00 AM EDT on Thursday May 24 2007 There’s plenty of music out there this summer and we’re all going to be enjoying it together. So let’s be considerate and review the rules K?No singing along at the top of your lungs. Look around you once in a while and make sure you’re not bumping into anyone. No dancing with beer in your hand. The opening act and the headliners have already agreed on their set times; booing the opening act will not bring the headliners on any faster… The Family Values Tour lands with a budda-budda-budda with Korn Evancescence Atreyu and a whole lot more all on July 27. The Warped Tour brings a ridiculous number of bands to the inside and outside of the Tweeter Center on Aug. 9; just a list of the bands would take more space than I’ve got here but the bill includes punk granddads Bad Religion don’t-call-them-prog-rockers Coheed and Cambria don’t-call-them-emo-boys Hawthorne Heights and go-ahead-and-call-them-punk-dudes Flogging Molly. The granddaddy of them all zzfest rolls through on Aug. 20 with the granddaddy of us all zzy sbourne headlining the all-day metalfest that starts at 9 a. (you heard me) along with Lamb of God.
Back to the Stompin’ Ground
Channel News Asia – May 24, 2007
The reason: The band believes making music and hanging out with old friends remain the members’ biggest motivation. “I’ve done fine with the band from the time we formed all those years ago till now. Just because we are older doesn’t mean I should stop playing” said drummer Mohammad Falmi Esman 33 a father of two. Tomorrow the quintet also made up of 42-year-old guitarist Suhaimi Subandie 34-year-old bassist Syed Mahdzar Al Shahab and singers Imran Wahid 30 and Mohammad Hafidz 35 will will play alongside legendary New York band Sick f It All at the Far East Square Pavilion. Stompin’ Ground will play from 7pm… This reporter was one of the few hundred who witnessed the group’s first concert at the Paya Lebar Community Centre one hot Sunday afternoon in 1989. Unhindered by shoddy instruments jacked through an equally dreadful sound system the then quartet bulldozed their way through a set bursting with punk-funk attitude and raw fury. Even though now-defunct punk bands like the Mindrape Protestants and the Rotten Germs rocked that day watching Stompin’ Ground for the first time remains one of the most memorable musical experiences for this writer. Mohammad Falmi admitted that the group came close to throwing in the towel more than a few times. However their long friendship and an urge to create new music have been major contributing factors to the longevity of Stompin’ Ground. “We’re pretty busy but we make it a point to meet rehearse new songs and have a laugh” he said. Added Suhaimi a father of four and a Star Wars fanatic who named his twins Luke and Leia: “I just don’t believe in doing things halfway when it comes to this band.

Navarro Perkins Farrell and bassist Eric Avery formed. Navarro was one of the first rock guitarists to not just confine his playing to one style – something that had become commonplace in the 90′s but was virtually unheard of in the 80′s (could you have really pictured Eddie Van Halen guesting on a punk rock record?). His playing on such landmark Jane’s albums as 1988′s Nothing’s Shocking and 90′s Ritual De Lo Habitual was like a breath of fresh air – Navarro knew when to shred away and when to lay low and add textures to the compositions. Unfortunately the band’s fondness for hard drugs made them split up by 1991 while Navarro battled heroin addiction. Finally clean and sober he and Avery resurfaced with the somewhat experimental band Deconstruction who issued a self-titled debut in 1994 but broke up as well soon afterwards. Navarro kept himself busy with session work in the meantime (guesting on… He immediately threw himself into his next musical project entitled Spread and worked on a book of photography. Trust No ne marked his solo debut in summer 2001. ~ Greg Prato All Music Guide.

Music Review: Fall ut Boy wows young Pavilion crowd
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette – Pittsburgh Post Gazette – May 24, 2007
Singer Gabe Saporta was best known for penning “Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)” featured in the movie starring the notoriously profane movie star. Victoria Asher stood out — most likely because she was the only girl in the band. When she sang she had a sweet voice that complimented Saporta’s more punk voice. The band bade farewell to the fans and left the stage. Next up: Paul Wall. He and a sidekick offered a series of requests to “put your hands in the air. ” Their movements were limited to walking across the stage bent elbow and waving their hands up and down as if trying to kill a fly.
