“I like new music and indie music and always have done” he says almost as soon we sit down. He is a David Bowie man particularly the Hunky Dory era and also namechecks The Skids and The Clash. At one point he even says he was a punk rocker although he admits he never had a Mohican. “Perhaps it’s fairer to say I liked the music” he decides in the end. The words “pull the other one” come to mind. If Gibson nodded his head to the odd guitar tune in his youth you will not find him tooled up on cider leaping around in leathers anytime soon. This advertising man is far less Generation X than Generation ABC1 and the only sign of an overdose is on PR speak.

Saturday: Rise Against is one of those rare pop-influenced punk bands whose hard-core spirit isn’t dampened by mainstream melodies. And albums like 2006′s “The Sufferer & the Witness” offer lyrics worth thinking about even as the music brings the thump. BUILT T SPILL 10 p. next Sunday: Five years passed between indie-rock band Built to Spill’s “Ancient Melodies of the Universe” in 2001 and last year’s “You in Reverse” but Doug Martsch’s Neil Young-like voice and aggressively intricate electric guitar made it worth the wait. Mapa Back to what’s happening around art shows I’ve seen live acts and new music to talk about. Recently caught “aDREation Shuffle” at the I Love You: Store and Art space along Makati Avenue. An exhibit of mixed media by Randy Tojos a simple show amidst the store’s merchandise about 5 feet canvasses like encyclopedia art blown up in tarpaulins hand-painted on mixed with silkscreen art. Plus two dinning chairs with their cushion hand painted accompanied by silkscreen of The Last Supper on it. It’s like The Da Vinci Code mixed with Fantasia pop art painting new wave and design all mashed-up… Nice one Randy! Then I went to the DJ Kaskade “Love Mysterious Tour” brought by Superfly productions at 1 Esplanade in SM Central Business Park Bay Boulevard Pasay City. Yes I paid for that and that was a good one. I know not everybody likes commercial house especially the punks and indie poppers the Goths and the hardcore people. But Kaskade has really good songs going on plus he built his bones in M Records; a real cool house label that also gave Afro Mystik Colette Mark Farina and a lot more really great dance music from deep house down-tempo and chill-out. Kaskade played around 1 a. and got off at around 3 a.

Security men swap radio messages through the night. Just after dawn at 4am the music abates and a thrush sings. therwise nature does not get much of a look-in. utside the site honeysuckle smothers a hawthorn and bramble blossom chokes the ditches. (Stereogum) Wish we had this kind of healthcare: a Swedish man is getting disability benefits for his addiction to heavy metal. 42-year-old dishwasher Roger Tullgren has been obsessed with heavy music since he was a child and his obsession has made it difficult for him to keep a steady job. The Swedish Employment Service has agreed to pay part of his salary while his boss will allow him to play loud music at work. Tullgren who attended almost 300 metal concerts last year and plays in two bands himself said he’s been trying to have his “condition” recognized for years.
