In 1995 “Da Funk” the first single from Daft Punk’s debutalbum Homework filtered into suburbia through corporatealt-rock radio and MTV’s Amp and completely blew my teenagemind. Those french-fried funk guitars strutting bass synthssquiggling 303s and stomping drum-machine beatsI don’t think I’d everreally heard a funk guitar at that point in my life let alone onesampled and splayed over an 808 beat (it would be years before I evenknew what an 808 or 303 was or why those machines even mattered). Atthe time my buddies and I didn’t even have the language to talk aboutdance music let alone dance to it; the best description we could comeup with for the track was “scootin’ music” because when you listenedto it while driving around in your parents’ car it made you want toscoot your ass around on the seat. By now the 15-year-old story of Daft Punk is legendary: Parisiankids form a Brian Wilsoninspired rock band open for Stereolab aredubbed “daft punk” in a harsh review from Melody Makerreappropriate the critical dis as a new moniker start making techno intheir bedrooms turn into robots and take over the world. War Without Bloodshed Against Me! and Blue Scholars: Two Sides of…
Infoshop News – Jul 25, 2007
AM! singer Tom Gabel and Scholars MC Geologic sat down to the same e-mail interview. Here’s what they had to say. What do you guys think about the connection between hiphop and punk?TOM: Both punk and hiphop are "street" music. It’s music that can be really simplified; you don’t need money to be a part of it. In punk rock you don’t even need to really know how to play an instrument; you can learn as you go. I would also compare the two to folk music: people telling stories of struggle from their everyday lives. GEO: People can philosophize all day comparing punk and hiphop but the connection to me is simplethey’re both cultural movements that emerged as a response to fucked-up conditions at around the same time.

Hangin’ with Bad Folk
St. Louis Post-Dispatch – Jul 25, 2007
Not the band the actual bomb Joey clarified. The name (Bad Folk) is self descriptive said Tim. We play post-punk folk music like punk rock and the old country before it got weird. Do you play any covers?Tim: We play “Waltzing Matilda’ by the Pogues as a protest song. We do the Meat Puppets’ “Lake of Fire’ – the phrase “bad folks’ is in the lyrics. “Freight Train’ by Elizabeth Cotton. Other than that it’s all originals he said.

Unwritten Law delights Boise fans
Boise State University The Arbiter… – Jul 25, 2007
jpg” > Punk rock. That’s all that has to be said. Any time a true punk rock band comes around and hits up a venue in Boise the show proves its worth. Unwritten Law a famous rock band certainly did just that Saturday night at the Big Easy. In town from San Diego Calif. the punk rockers took the stage in front of an energetic Big Easy Concert House crowd. Opening bands The Bangkok Five and Bullets and Octane got the crowd pumping before the long-awaited Unwritten Law tore up the stage… Unwritten Law is composed of a bassist guitarist and drummer along with lead singer Scott Russo. Although the hit punk rockers have been dropped from every record label they’ve had according to their Website they still have managed to have five singles in the top 20 and even a number one hit. The members say they “don’treally get out much” so their music is “coming from a pure place and not coming from a place where we’re trying to be part of something. “Unwritten Law surpassed the expectations of the Big Easy crowd with a stunning punk show. ECW: Champ’s challenge continues
SLAM! Sports – Jul 25, 2007
Now though it’s improving. I didn’t say I liked it but it’s getting better. Did I speak too soon? The opening of the show has the ECW Originals music and not the Marilyn Manson tune. Also Marcus Cor Von is still on the opening package. But where has he been? On the show tonight maybe?Live from Phoenix ECW champion John Morrison heads to the ring for the next installment of 15 Minutes of Fame. He says he looked for Arizona’s best athlete but Cardinals’ quarterback Matt Leinart (who Morrison calls Line-hart) and Diamondbacks’ pitcher Randy Johnson weren’t available. So the champ brings out a local jobber brings the ref in the ring (who for some reason was sitting ringside) and calls for the bell… Arizona’s Best AthleteA knee to the gut and a corkscrew neckbreaker gives Morrison the win in 19 seconds. Winner via pinfall: John MorrisonMorrison grabs the mic and asks the crowd for Arizona’s second-best athlete. Tommy Dreamer Elijah Burke and CM Punk all hit the ring and give reasons why they should get a shot at Morrison. Punk says he wants one more shot and if he can’t beat Morrison he’ll never ask for another title match. Morrison books a Triple Threat Match with the challengers for later tonight with the winner getting 15 Minutes of Fame next week. That’s great and all but how many more times do we see the same guys in the main event? This just shows that the ECW roster is thin and the forgotten red-headed step-child of Vince McMahon. Match # 2 – Stevie Richards vs.

has always been out in left field. Refusing to conform to any one particular style Jahred and his cohorts mix up metal punk funk rap ska reggae and damn near any other type of music you can think of sometimes in a single song. But “Insomnia” finds the band letting in a darker energy that’s in stark contrast to the group’s last effort the more upbeat and accessible “Only In Amerika. continue to remain relevant amongst an overcrowded music scene that contains more followers than leaders? Firstly it’s the unique personality and outlook Jahred brings to the table.
