More noise than punk

Sometimes one has to agree: Czech rock music weighs in on the light side. Seeking to tip the scales since 1997 has been one of the country’s open musical secrets the independent label Silver Rocket. For Iggy or anyone seeking to find that elusive Czech rock ’n’ roll gravity Silver Rocket’s upcoming mini-festival on Střelecký Island may be just the ticket. Take Gnu for instance with its two bass guitars throbbing a foundation for a drum and guitar-noise thrall. “You’ll either listen with fists and jaw tightly clenched or sing along in a joyful wordless howl” was how Splendid magazine correctly summed up Gnu’s 2002 CD Milimetry Ticha.
Breaking Artist: Against Me!

Sounds Like: New Wave is full of terrifically propulsive agit-prop like the anti-war anthem “White People for Peace. ” But it?s also long on smart catchy tunes thanks partly to the band?s array of non-punk influences which include Bob Dylan and Dolly Parton. Three Things You Should Know:Not long before forming Against Me! as a solo acoustic project in 1997 singer Tom Gabel began a career as a teenage activist joining lefty causes like Food Not Bombs and running a leftist zine called Misanthrope for which he interviewed ex-Black Panther Bobby Seale. Since the current lineup solidified around 2002 Against Me! have been one of the hardest-working bands in show biz having done well over 1000 shows in all fifty States and Europe… I like the older stuff better too but I’d probably be pretty bored with them if they were still writing the same old stuff they were ten years ago. Haha But when their views change and their music changes thats when I have a problem. I don’t know about anyone else but if I was my age now when their first demos came out I’d love it. Vivida Vis some amazing stuff. So don’t give me that crap about how no one cared about them then when it was JUST Tom. They really gave me something to believe in and I sang my heart out and just felt the music.
Why we’re still all shook up

article-tools –> By Aisling Cordon Maki August 15 2007 12:00am THIRTY years after Elvis left the building for the last time the world is still all shook up over the King of rock and roll. While his music is no longer topping the charts the legend of Elvis Presley continues to draw in new fans and his iconic image graces everything from the tackiest of ceramic busts to multimillion dollar ad campaigns. Elvis defined what it meant to be a pop star and his swagger and croonings are imitated by aspiring front-men and impersonators alike. He was the poor boy made good the white boy who brought black music into the mainstream the sex symbol who was a mama’s boy the rebel who remained a patriot the star who died young as fame and fortune pushed him to drugs and depression. "Elvis is the greatest cultural force in the twentieth century" American composer Leonard Bernstein once said. "He introduced the beat to everything music language clothes it’s a whole new social revolution… His reputation became much more benign after he served two years in the military in Germany and began appearing in a series of Hollywood films like Blue Hawaii and Jailhouse Rock. But even as Elvis descended into the kitsch of his rhinestone-studded jumpsuits and Las Vegas shows he continued to produce classic songs like In the Ghetto and Suspicious Minds. And the rock stars who replaced him as the icons of subsequent generations – Bob Dylan Al Green Elton John the Beatles punk rockers the Clash and U2 – continue to pay tribute to the king. "Before Elvis there was nothing" John Lennon once said. Decades later U2 singer Bono wrote in Rolling Stone magazine "Elvis changed everything – musically sexually politically. " Elvis remains the best-selling solo artist of all time with over a billion records sold worldwide. He is arguably pulling in more money now than he did at the height of his career with annual earnings of between $US40 million ($A47.
Dave Grohl: The Six-Pack Q&A
Rolling Stone – Aug 15, 2007
Like surprising the wife for her birthday and saying ?Hey I?m going to take you out to dinner and all of your friends are going to meet us there. ? And then we go to Vegas for the night and come back. What was your favorite record when you were fourteen?Once I discovered punk rock I dove headfirst into underground hardcore and American hardcore. But the one album that I listened to the most was. I grew up outside of D… That?s a fucking great song. At this point though it?s whatever my daughter can dance to. And she has kickass taste in music. She doesn?t go for Wiggles or Barney bullshit.

"While Brock's self-mutilation at a Sioux Falls show earlier this year got more attention than it merited he says it's not indicative of any self-destructive tendencies. "I think the point was missed on that" he says. "I guess it's been a long time since old punk-rock days and the punk rock that I remember. I was in a good mood. I was having a good time. It's nothing that didn't almost heal immediately. People make it out to be a sad cry for help but that's just their own drama.
