Unlike other teenagers Michael’s first musical love was jazz (instead of the expected hard rock) as he concentrated on mastering the trumpet while attending Fairfax High School. It was around this time that he met two other Fairfax students who would eventually change his life — guitarist Hillel Slovak and poet Anthony Kiedis. Flea landed the bass playing slot in the confrontational L. punk band Fear by the early ’80s but decided to form a band with Slovak on guitar Kiedis on vocals and another friend Jack Irons on drums.

Belfast Telegraph – Aug 17, 2007
They’ve been criss-crossing the Irish sea recently playing gigs in Nottingham Glasgow and Dublin but will be breaking off their assault on the UK and the south of Ireland with a gig in The Limelight next Thurday. The trio serve up fast and furious three-minute (or less) rock ‘n’ punk classics unsurprisingly drawing admiration from Belfast’s origional master of the three-chord classic jake Burns of Stiff Little Fingers. The city’s most famous punk invited the band to support SLF on their 30th anniversary tour earlier this year and it was a match made in punk heaven. Don’t go see this band if you like your music laid back and folksy and are not prepared to be converted to the religion of rock ‘n’ roll – these guys are out to kick music’s ass amd anyone who gets in their way is in trouble! Also on the bill nexk week at what will be yet another stomping Two Step Production is another Belfast trio the slackerishly-titled Saint Dude’s. The self professed purveyor’s of ‘scumbag rock ‘n’ roll’ are anything but slacker-like in their enthusiasm to to take over the world of rock one thrashing chord at a time. And completing the line-up are Nice ‘n’ Sleezy (you can see a bit of a theme here can’t you) who have been influenced by the likes of Motley Crue Guns ‘N’ Roses and the Sex Pistols and who recently picked up the BBC ATL Rock School trophy. Lisburn’s Music Revolution festival continues with an all-ages gig in the Island Arts Centre tonight hosted by the guys from AU magazine… The trio serve up fast and furious three-minute (or less) rock ‘n’ punk classics unsurprisingly drawing admiration from Belfast’s origional master of the three-chord classic jake Burns of Stiff Little Fingers. One of the best bands to come out of Northern Ireland in these past few years Clone Quartet will be headlining offering up danceable infectious CSS-style beats ahead of the release of their debut album this October.

New York Times – Aug 17, 2007
One of them Taking Back Sunday from Long Island came close to stealing the show with an infectious and slightly chaotic set of love songs. No doubt the hometown advantage helped: the singer Adam Lazzara (who has adopted a faux-ksy drawl not unlike Jack White’s) earned a cheer when he reminisced about his old job at Pete’s Deli in Farmingdale. There was also room for some outliers: the willfully ridiculous techno-punk act Mindless Self- Indulgence; the new-wavey Placebo. HIM the Finnish goth-rock band has plenty of irresistibly melodramatic songs all sweetness and gloom but sounded surprisingly wan. Perhaps HIM’s rather vampiric lead singer Ville Valo was puzzled by the strange glow that illuminated the stage and the seats while his band played. It’s called daylight and it doesn’t seem to suit him. Linkin Park has sold millions of albums by being charmless but proficient and on Wednesday the members underscored both extremes… It’s called daylight and it doesn’t seem to suit him. Linkin Park has sold millions of albums by being charmless but proficient and on Wednesday the members underscored both extremes. They look less like rock ‘n’ roll royalty and more like a bunch of technocrats; considering the meticulous way they make music that might be an apt description. The huge refrains of “Numb” “In the End” and other old hits shook the bleachers as effectively as ever. Some of the more restrained new songs (including “Shadow of the Day” which owes.

(Strummer fronted the Clash for the uninitiated punks out there. ) But Yelenick is a punk legend in his own right. His roots stretch far and wide in too many bands to count but many local fans pay tribute at the punk altar – i. the bar – at Yelenick’s weekly acoustic happy hour singalong Fridays at the Larimer Lounge.
