He always played the top club tunes electronic-wise which was old-school house of course at that time and became more techy and progressive over the years. Although we were pretty young (11 and 14) it grabbed us somehow and we used to record the shows on tapes. Eventually we understood the formula behind electronic music and club sounds. But we didn’t only listen to this kind of music; we grew up with many musical genres including Euro Dance HipHop (that’s what Jence started DJing with) Funk Disco (Isi started DJing with it) Rave Trance Rock and all that.

It was a great blow to the man born John Mellor the charismaticson of a diplomat and product of a private boarding school who wenton to become a champion of the political underdog and frontman ofone of the most influential bands of the 1970s punk scene. Along the way he was Woody Mellor art school drop-out squatterand anarchist band member and finally Joe Strummer lead singer ofThe Clash known for classics like London Calling IFought The Law and of course Rock The Casbah. For an anti-authoritarian with a strong Marxist streak Strummerhad an unlikely family background. His father was a career diplomat and Strummer spent hischildhood in various parts of the world including Iran EgyptMalawi and Mexico until entering boarding school in London. His older brother David a collector of Nazi memorabiliacommitted suicide in 1970… Perhaps Bono should be careful what he wishes for. The last thing we need today is another bloatedmulti-million-dollar stadium outfit or bombastic mega-rich rockstar preaching about saving the world. Possibly the history of The Clash is better served byremembering them as what they were: angry and talented young menwho came out of nowhere made their music and left their mark -without anyone ever being able to accuse them of overstaying theirwelcome.

Hanging out in Kentucky should have been the calm before the storm. The guys have been busy rehearsing with a new guitar player finishing a music video getting products ready for the merch table doing interviews and just getting their homes in order to be absent for a month. "Everything's been lined up but when it hits you it hits you all at once" says Pfunder. "We're dealing with so much stuff. " And that's their time off. Tonight the real challenge starts when VHS or Beta begins the second leg of its road tour in Toronto.
