The birthplace of punk
Guardian Unlimited – Sep 1, 2007
UK artists – The Jam The Damned Elvis Costello – landed and played CBGBs and Hilly’s enthusiasm for new rock music (“no cover bands” was the rule) meant anyone trying to break into New York wanted to play his club. From Crowded House to Guns N’ Roses The Strokes to The White Stripes CBGBs hosted them all. Not that Hilly was all embracing; having hit the punk jackpot he kept his music policy loud noisy and white. Forget country bluegrass and blues. Rap blossomed in The Bronx but never made it to The Bowery. Lenny Kaye who played CBGBs final night with Patti Smith estimated some 50000 bands played over the venue’s 33 year history.
Deerhunter Dresses Up The Music at Black Cat
Washington Post – Sep 1, 2007
The show was a new beginning of sorts for the self-described "ambient punk" group. It was Deerhunter’s first as a quartet after the departure of guitarist Colin Mee and it also showcased a new side of frontman Bradford Cox. He used to take the stage wearing a sundress and covered in fake blood but he promised an end to those antics in a recent post on his blog. (Cox lived up to his word and with the sideshow aspect gone Deerhunter wasn’t much to look at — but it offered plenty to hear. Most songs stuck to the basic template of starting out as formless atmospheric soundscapes that gradually built into shimmering dirges.
RAETH the Band!
Pakistan Dawn – Sep 1, 2007
If Mustafa has silky hair like Goher Mumtaz (lead guitarist of JAL) and wears shades in videos like him what is that to do with our music? If Wajih’s facial expressions resemble Farhan Saeed (vocalist of JAL) while singing that is not again something to do with our music. I do yodelling like Kishore Kumar but then most of the singers do that because it’s a style of singing and nobody owns that style. Jal’s album and music has acoustic rock style in it whereas Raeth has all other moods and spices of music like punk rock groovy and pop rock. People usually can’t make out the difference in the varieties of music they just want to compare and evaluate new bands with the old well established ones.
!Apesh*t!

After recently seeing them perform live I was reminded of a time when people had fun at shows and didn’t care who was there watching or what people were wearing. As their name suggests you can imagine how a crowd might respond–dancing sweating getting fucked up and escaping to somewhere else for that brief moment. But don’t think they’re gonna recycle some punk anthems from the past !Apeshit! has a new vision and they’re not scared to stomp over anyone in their path. It seems pretty hard to try and take punk somewhere nowadays unless.
