That is how the group found him. “My parents divorced when I was 15 and I was just looking for a way to lash out” he said. The skinhead movement uses punk music to entice kids he said noting that not all punk music is racist but the fast-paced emotional style made it perfect for attracting recruits. While white hate groups make up only 11 percent of the total gang population in the High Desert their small numbers don’t make them any less dangerous said San Bernardino County Probation Officer Nathan Scarano who has been a part of the SMASH gang unit since its inception. “You really don’t hear a lot about these guys compared to the black and Hispanic gangs but when they do decide to do something it’s usually big” said Scarano. “Black and Hispanic gangs are about turf; white gangs are usually drawn together by ideals” said Scarano.

However the music that came out of the summer of 1978 continues to influence a whole new breed of Northern Irish musicians. Gary Lightbody frontman of Snow Patrol describes the punk scene at that time as the most important period in Northern Irish music. “It was the antithesis of everything else that was happening at the time. It was a light in the darkness. Nobody else was doing it at the time and this should be recognised. ” Stuart Bell from the Panama Kings agrees: “Good Vibrations did so much to raise the profile of the Northern Irish music scene at a time when our culture was suppressed by everything else that was going on.

When talking about punk music Lou said that it will always be around when "the choice is that or jail". Reed is in Austin to premiere his feature film ‘Berlin’. The movie is the live concert version of his 70′s album ‘Berlin’ the album that followed the hit record ‘Transformer’. When talking about his successes and failures Lou said "I released ‘Walk On The Wild Side’ and then fucked it up with ‘Berlin’. ‘Rock and Roll Animal’ undid the damage.

But the third part is more nebulous and even dare I say it spiritual — to try and reconnect with why I do what I do. Covering music for a daily newspaper you inevitably find yourself writing about topics you might find. I’m not complaining because it comes with the territory; I’m just pointing out that when you’re up to your ears in deadlines and details it can be difficult to remember the joy and the passion and the rockin’ out that made this job appealing in the first place… The crowd appeared to be mostly trendy Eurokids. Unknown — A band whose name I didn’t catch because they were playing behind the fence of a parking lot on Sixth Street. Pretty standard punk-metal power-trio long on speed and volume. By next year maybe they’ll have enough precision to rate an actual SXSW showcase slot.
