The only bad decision that most folks make though these days is drinking too much and ignoring the stupendous selection of entertainment options available on any given weekend. With the snow finally off the roads the nine-hour trip to Vegas isn’t too daunting and it’s just in time for some excellent entertainment. Saturday night Cher takes over the Colesseum at Caesars Palace competing with the Jaegermeister Music Tour which features Hatebreed and Type O Negative. For Godsmack fans lead singer Sully Erna will be performing at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel. For those folks who want a little more twang and a little less rage Charlie Daniels and Shooter Jennings share the stage on May 31 at the Orleans Arena… There’s always something going on there; it’s just a fun town. I’ve played there quite a few times from the big rodeo they have to some of the casinos with guys like Trace Adkins” Aldean said. Also on June 21: Gnarls Barkley goes crazy for the Outernational Music Festival at Mandalay Bay Beach and the UFC Ultimate Fighter show takes place at the Pearl Concert Theatre. Bette shares more than a feeling
Some might say that the best was saved for the final weekend of June though. The Divine Miss M Bette Midler is headlining Caesars Palace on Friday June 27. That same night Smash Mouth plays the Hard Rock; Social D front man and quintessential Vegas rocker Mike Ness plays the House of Blues. Mike Ness said he always looks forward to playing Vegas since it was one of the few places that let Social Distortion play back in the day.

The Stooges”In the 1970s chemists used to sell records for about 99p and I stumbled across the Stooges’ Raw Power album in Boots in Rugby. I instantly fell in love with the picture of Iggy Pop in his silk pants clutching the microphone: I bought it purely on the strength of that. The Stooges were the first music I got into that felt like mine and nobody else’s. They just seemed totally alien. I only saw them live for the first time recently and it was the best show I have ever seen. They had this astonishing stage invasion that was totally out of control. We had to play after them and they were impossible to follow… It’s music that couldn’t care less about the music industry. It’s in those people’s blood; it’s what they do. ” Nuggets”Lenny Kaye’s Nuggets album [legendary 1972 compilation of late-60s psychedelic and garage punk tracks] had a massive impact on me. There were all these groups like the Electric Prunes the Standells and most importantly for me the 13th Floor Elevators and they sounded like they had just fallen out of the sky. They all desperately wanted to sound like the British invasion bands the Rolling Stones or the Beatles but they all happened to be chewing acid while they were doing it so it all came out brilliantly weird. There was a huge rush to the music. Was it clear straight away that this was drug music? It wasn’t exactly very hard to work out!” Memphis”Some cities are as big an influence on me as individual artists have been.
