Other members include Yohei Hasegawa (guitar) Lee Sang-hun (keyboards) Choi Won-sik (bass) and Lee Min-woo (drums). The album reflects his emotions surrounding this new musical period in his life. ¡°I always had a thirst for punk music – it challenges the social status quo¡± Kim said in an interview last month at his recording studio in Mangwon-dong western Seoul. He was busy editing the album¡¯s final recordings. This is a first for him in the punk genre. In fact Kim dissatisfied with the music of the time formed the band Sanwoolim in the mid-1970s with his two brothers Kim Chang-hun and Kim Chang-ik. Instant Asshole Gruk and Duck and Cover all have female members marking Friday’s event as the not-so-typical Monstros punk show. Leasa Cartera performs bass duties for Instant Asshole while Gruk’s lead singer Rachel Loveless crunches out raspy vocals. Duck and Cover’s drummer and frontwoman sock it to the male-dominated genre applying Rosie the Riveter novelty to banal punk rock. Punk music has proliferated through underground venues and all-ages shows for a long time. Part of the allure is the spontaneity of a show that could be dissolved by police but an even larger appeal comes from love for the music. It is not uncommon for punk bands to sidestep bars altogether in favor of all-ages venues said Adam Rusch drummer for Death Crisis which is also on Friday’s bill. “Any hardcore band worth their salt is going to prefer underground and all-ages shows over playing at some lame bar where everyone is more into drinking” he said.

Later in the season he’ll indulge in a little nepotism by welcoming his wife Diana Krall to the show and he’ll also spend time with well-meaning over-the-hillers like James Taylor and Tony Bennett. Yet Rufus Wainwright himself and Elvis’ punk-pop contemporaries the Police are also on the guest list and the first season – one can only hope this is the first of many – ends with Smokey Robinson. So forget Elvis the angry young punk. He might have made better music than his middle-aged incarnation but as a music fan and a craftsman he’s much more engaging as host of “Spectacle. ” This is a warm intelligent series to get any music fan through the cold winter months ahead. • Ted Cox writes Tuesday and Thursday in L&E and Friday in Sports and Time out!.

com>JIM DeROGATIS Pop Music Critic. But if you bother to examine the music there’s no denying the group essentially is goofing on all of the above with incredibly well-crafted undeniably entertaining and utterly irresistible bursts of poppy punk. Fall Out Boy isn’t ”The Bachelor” or ”Denise Richards: It’s Complicated”; more like ”Top Chef” or ”America’s Next Top Model” — rare excellent exceptions in a justly maligned genre.
