The list of bands who?ve married Celtic folk tunes with the passion of punk is long. This makes sense to Barr. ?I?ve always said that folk music was kind of the first punk music ? music by the people for the people for the causes of the people. Punk and folk have more in common than they don?t? he says. ?The values and mindset behind both are definitely related. But it all goes back to The Pogues right?Yes it does says Barr whose band has often collaborated with members of the seminal Irish rock act.

Epic Core is what they call it and it?s nothing like you?ve ever heard before. Their band called Shortbus Pickup will make you want to jump off the bandwagon and wait by the bus stop to hitch a ride to speed metal and punk music heaven. Performers like Lydia Lunch James Chance “Suicide” or Arto Lindsay barely even consider themselves musicians (many question No Wave’s validity as a musical movement and prefer to consider it a general cultural movement) but I think they still needed artists like Bruce Springsteen or “Earth Wind and Fire” to bounce off of. I needed to find something more naturally antagonistic for this column. It dawned on me that most black metal bands appear to be tucked away in the secluded regions of Scandinavia.
