Apt enough for Carter who spent much time around the punk music scene there is also the edgy sound of that genre. It’s all part of the curious but undeniable link country and punk have shared for generations a bond due in large part to Johnny Cash’s profound effect on many punk alternative and hardcore artists. “The first song ‘The Bitter End’ is kind of autobiographical” Carter said. “But then I wrote ‘Green Love. ’ It’s kind of a conglomeration – feisty stuff personally moving things.

Dean said they grew up listening to “all kinds of music. “Anything that seeps through our ears pretty much comes out” he said. The Sadies put together influences ranging from 1960s and psychedelic rock to country surf and punk music. But somehow it all comes out sounding distinctly Sadies. Dean said the band tries to make it to Whistler once a year to play for “beautiful people in a beautiful place” and the annual pilgrimage is coming up next Thursday (March 12) at the GLC. If you’ve never been to a Sadies show take Mike Varrin’s word for it. Whistler Blackcomb’s director of bars brings the band back to the GLC each year and he said it’s one of his favourite shows.
