Punk fans out in force in Morecambe
The Visitor
Around 700 people turned up to catch some rays while enjoying music from Magill and Dave Cash and line-dancing. Meanwhile over at the Trimpell Club in Morecambe the three-day Nice n Sleazy festival kept the spirit of the old Morecambe punk festival alive. Punks flooded into Morecambe from far and wide to camp out and enjoy live music from all manner of anarchic bands. ur photographer Garth Hamer attended both events to capture the sights and sounds of a red-hot weekend for music.

Creative Loafing
Their songs ranged from aggressive punk to eerie atmospheric and in any case they kept the crowd thrashing about. Many of their fans screamed along. f course it’s usually hard to understand the lyricsin much live punk music since the instrument volume is jacked way up and because the vocalist usually screams at the top of his or her lungs. Added to that the Xiawen’s vocalist (and fans) screamed in Chinese which was odd in an interesting kind of way. Since you can’t really understand anything anyway it’s easier to focus on the raw emotional and physical expression. All-in-all I dug the group but wished that they had a drummer. As you can see on the video (unfortunately it can’t be uploaded until I get back due to China’s ban on YouTube) a drum-kit was set up but it was evidently just a house kit.

Punk Rock High School
San Diego Reader
?It?s based on reality and completely different from say Disney?s High School Musical. ?Though filming just started the movie already has a CD soundtrack. ?Most of the bands are connected with the Rock Band Music Club at El Camino High? says Voris who teaches economics and history at the ceanside school. Current and former students on the soundtrack include Midnight Rose Without Warning Durty White Chucks Inberst Rootsicali ne Way Flight Irieside and Tan Sister Radio. The CD graphics were designed by El Camino senior Michael Rafalik with mastering by A-list producer Stephen Marsh (Black Eyed Peas Incubus Neil Diamond). Voris?s 14-year-old daughter sings on one track. A concert fundraiser for the film was scheduled for a senior center in Carlsbad.

Gibson
A few weeks ago it released its eleventh studio album Coaster. A word to the wise: You can call NFX prolific but definitely don?t call it ?pop punk.
