“Make Music New York is a great example of why New York is one of the world's cultural capitals” said Mayor Michael Bloomberg. “With performances from individual amateurs to world-class ensembles Make Music New York gives all of our residents and visitors a chance to experience the City's diverse musical riches in their own backyards—or explore the sights and sounds of other neighborhoods” Bloomberg said. If you’re into punk rock then you’ll be happy to hear that Governor’s Island will once again be “Punk Island” with 70 punk bands blasting angst at fevered pitch and full volume. There is also jazz rock blues classical mariachi—and nearly everything in between. Also this year in order to make for more musical participation musicians who do not belong to any group are being grouped together in large performance orchestras called “Mass Appeal. ” These ad hoc ensembles will be conducted and play pre-composed music and will feature combinations of instruments including the cello bagpipes and circuit benders. For more than 10 years the Memphis maniac has kept himself quite busy in the band department shuffling between frantic garage-punk in the Reatards to the thrash synthery of Lost Sounds.
