When we travel we always try and talk to local promoters about getting new and classic music and when we were there we heard a lot of low-fi sounds in bars and clubs. I love that stuff man Russian disco—we heard a lot of cheap techno mixed with old music like Romanian welded gypsy music. Also the post-punk movement was really huge there; it was the soundtrack to Communism. I was always a huge fan of Western post-punk music. What is the best and worst part of being in a two-person band? The best thing is easy: easy decision making—I guess it helps that we’re married. We never have to argue about where we want to go to dinner. That sounds really mundane but it’s kind of nice to be able to say like we’re eating sushi for dinner tonight.

Sheet metal country comes to Carlson’s

Andrew who started his musical career 20 years ago during the punk music explosion said he was honoured to play with those musicians. He said although he has his roots in the punk music scene out of Vancouver his band now plays a form of folk music he calls ?sheet metal country. ? He likes to call it soft music with an edge to it. He said Vancouver inspired the song ?Down on the Frasier? and lyrics are very important to him and his group. ?There is an element of unexpectedness (in the lyrics)? said Andrew.

As usual the festival in its 15th year throws more music at attendees than one could possibly process with seven stages and countless booths touting everything from merchandise to political action. This year in Dallas the layout of such a sprawling affair was a bit counterintuitive. If you were unadventurous or unfamiliar with previous Warped shows you might have plopped yourself down in front of Superpages. com’s two main stages and never been aware of the five on the north side of the complex.

Minus the track “Sink Florida Sink” all of the other songs from As The Eternal Cowboy appear on the demo release but not in the same order. It’s interesting to hear these first takes on songs that later turned into a must have album for many punk rockers out there. “Mutiny n The Electronic Bay” actually sounded better than the studio mastered version as did “T. ” Perhaps it was the lack of overdubbing or just the pure integrity of the track making it that much more enjoyable.

Jayhawks reunite with classic lineup

In September Sony Legacy will start rereleasing the Jayhawks’ five major-label releases with bonus tracks. lson 47 recalls the Jayhawks making waves when they began playing in 1985 when “the Minneapolis Sound” was defined by Prince’s funk-rock and the Replacements’ pop-punk. “I think people thought it was a little strange we were playing this country stuff in the rock bars” lson said in a recent interview.

Labels and Internet Radio Stations Come to Agreement on Royalties
