Around 2004 or 2005 I started getting into noise and started being really influenced by what was happening out in Providence Rhode Island and just seeing live noise performances pedal noise and stuff. So I started to incorporate that into my sound experimenting with textures and getting really noisy and crazy. I was always drawn to the performance aspect of punk music the rawness of it. Punk philosophy is something I’m really drawn to and always have been– that I think fits very well in an anarchist sense to my music. It just naturally came together. It wasn’t like I was trying to do anything. I’ve always been DIY I guess putting everything out myself.

Lowenstein kept working on the script that would become the 1986 cult classic Dogs in Space. “I never got back to that producer with the script but we kept going and Michael stayed true to his word of ‘I am’ and it finally happened. Dogs in Space was inspired by Lowenstein’s experiences living in a share house in Melbourne during the punk music explosion of the late 70s. It focuses on the lives of the share house inhabitants the parties the drug-taking and the music. Hutchence plays Sam a drug-addled lead singer of a pub band called Dogs in Space. The character was based on a friend of both Lowenstein and Hutchence’s singer Sam Sejavka from The Ears. Lowenstein remembers one of their early encounters at the Crystal Ballroom in Melbourne where The Ears were playing downstairs and INXS were performing on the floor above.
