The family legend was that his father was looking for a parking space in Hoboken and ended up some 20 miles away. He played football for Passaic Valley Regional High (”I wasn’t anything great but it was fun) and then went on to Rutgers University where he majored in history and then New York University Law School where he was a member of the law review. Known to frequent CBGB home to the punk music scene in lower Manhattan in the 1980s Marra discovered groups like the Talking Heads and the Ramones. Asked if he named his daughter after the lead singer of the Pretenders Marra only smiled. “I have a big crush on Chrissie Hynde. I’ll confess to that” he said. In fact there is a big poster of the Pretenders on the wall of his office.

To its originators if punk could be defined then it was no longer punk. It instead represented a freedom of artistic expression that had no designated fashion or sound. It didn’t even have a name; it was only called punk music in retrospect.

“Not just so we could get some interesting covers happening but we wanted to broaden the appeal for this event to maximize the turnout. Bands were invited to play songs from the original double LP the CD box sets “More Nuggets” collection or any songs by bands featured on those compilations. “The 13th Floor Elevators The Sonics and The Monks are often considered the catalyst for what became punk music” Julin says “so it makes sense that their songs were the ones that everyone wanted to cover. Several bands wanted to play ‘You’re Gonna Miss Me’ and ‘Strychnine’ and those songs will certainly be featured. But so many options to select from nobody was discouraged. So how many people have they had to explain Nuggets to?”Gosh. Honestly more than I expected” Hughes says.
