The musician artist and poet was close to artist Robert Mapplethorpe and musician Bob Dylan and was at the forefront of the Detroit music scene after moving to Motown from New York City in the late 1970s (she later returned to New York in the mid-1990s). Sometimes called “the godmother of punk music” her drawings have been exhibited at the Robert Miller Gallery and the Museum of Modern Art both in New York; the Museum Eki in Kyoto Japan; and the Pompidou Center in Paris. In 2005 she was awarded the Minister of Culture for the French Republic the grade of “Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres” the highest awarded to an artist. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Festivalfff will be screening as part of CinemaParque a series of six screenings projected on the handball courts of Sternberg Park in East Williamsburg courtesy of the folks at Moviehouse. Both sides of the handball wall feature remarkable Spanish-language shorts videos and documentaries (complete with sub-titles. ) Following each screening the audience participates in an enriching and lively conversation with the talented filmmakers and curators.
